Reserves Department
The Mission of the Reserves Department is to provide current University of San Diego students access to course materials, electronic or hard-copy, that are provided by faculty members.
The Reserves Department is located on the main floor of Copley Library, behind the Access Services desk. Library staff will provide assistance to students by helping them locate the course materials that they want to use.
Many professors put materials required for a course on Hard-copy Reserve, making them available to students at the library for a limited amount of time. The loan periods range anywhere from only one hour to three days. If the loan period is less than one day, the material must be reviewed within the library. If the loan period is one or more days, the item may be checked out for review outside the library.
Electronic Reserves (E-Res) is another service provided by the library where course materials, such as journal articles, book chapters, or homework solutions, are placed online so they may be accessed from any computer at any time. These course materials are normally in PDF format but other formats, such as Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint, may be used also. You can check E-Res from the Copley Library homepage and you can search for the material using the course number or the professor’s last name. The required password to gain access to the specific course page will be distributed by the professor of that course.
